Comércio justo nas cooperativas de banana de Magdalena (Colômbia): uma estratégia para reduzir a pobreza dos pequenos produtores

Resumo

A pobreza é uma questão social com vários enfoques da academia para subsidiar a formulação de políticas públicas e econômicas. Objetivo. Identificar estratégias para reduzir a pobreza nas áreas rurais com a incorporação do comércio justo. Metodologia. O método de caso foi utilizado a partir da análise das etapas de criação, desenvolvimento e evolução de cooperativas de produtores de banana no departamento de Magdalena (Colômbia). A coleta de dados foi feita por meio de pesquisas, entrevistas e visitas de campo através de uma abordagem interdisciplinar (história empresarial, economia, ciências sociais). Resultados. Da análise dos casos, obteve-se que, das seis cooperativas analisadas, duas nasceram motivadas por pequenos produtores e as restantes surgem como uma adaptação às exigências do mercado. Conclusão. Conclui-se que o comércio justo tem sido de fato uma contribuição importante na redução da pobreza nas áreas rurais estudadas.
